Rai walked through the woods, as Druids tend to do. Watching the birds pass by with his sharp blue eyes, hearing them chirp through his quick pointed ears another noise catches his thought its a whimpering in the distance that attracts his attention, he follows the sound, he darts into a jog, hearing the cries of a baby wolf cub. There he spots the cub, he stops and looks around in panic searching for its mother. He slowly walks the ten foot stretch between him and the animal, constantly looking, scared to think what would happen if mamma comes back. He kneels down and reassures the injured animal. He starts taking out of his bag a splint and wrap and completely bandages her leg. “There” he says. “That should do it but I can’t leave you out here alone.” So he carefully picks up the cub and heads back to his grove. “Now my new friend, what should I call you?” He stares, with deep intent, into her eyes. “Dark as night, as mysterious as the falling sun. Dusk that’s what I’ll call you!” He snuggles and rubs the baby wolf’s head.
After three months of nursing Dusk back to health, they became the best of friends, Running, playing, and even fighting. The sun starts to set on a busy day, for they are preparing to leave in the morning, “Well, my friend tomorrow is the start of a new adventure.” Rai says as he slips under his sleeping blanket. The birds are chirping and the sun rises cascading its rays on his face, feeling the warmth upon his skin, he pops his eyes open and quickly jumps out of his bed and stretches his arms and legs. “What a fine morning it is today“ he remarks. He moves over to his bag and opens up a bag of fruit and nuts. ”Well today is the day we leave here and embark on a great adventure. Rai grabs a handful of nuts and popping some in his mouth, he grabs his equipment and heads off, with Dusk walking along beside him.
Rai and Dusk walk East through the forest, not knowing if they will see some action that day, they continue on without hesitation. Many hours pass before they stop to rest and eat. The forest starts to thin out and turn into grassland that is waist deep and the trees are meager. "Not a cloud in the sky." Rai says in a lower that normal voice. What surprises or dangers await them as they travel? Rai sighs looking toward Dusk, who looks back at him. "Go hunt" he says. With the sun starting to set, Dusk goes running off looking for their next meal. In the meantime Rai finds an old fire pit, the grass around it has grown a bit since it was last used, but not a danger. A couple hours pass before she brings back a couple of rabbits. By this time, he has a small fire going. . "Good girl!" he takes a rabbit and starts to clean it, then cooks it. The fire attracts some curious flora and fauna, but nothing harmful at least. After their meal they settle down to rest. They into the sky as the stars dance and twinkle in the night, falling slowly into a light slumber.
Morning comes, Rai and Dusk are wide awake watching the sun rise over the horizon. Rai packs up his equipment and heads on continuing their Eastern path. Adapting the same routine as yesterday. In the mid afternoon trees start to show more and more, they realize they are heading into another forest. All of a sudden Rai and Dusk sense something, a feeling quivering up their back. Something is staring, watching there every movement. Dusk's ears pick up and scan the area for any noise. Suddenly from their right, behind some trees jump out four yellowish-green, scraggly looking goblins, one with a spear ready the other three have morningstars. In a rush Rai pulls out an arrow and judges about fifteen feet and lets it fly at one of the goblins, Dusk rushes at one. The arrow hits it’s mark square in its yellowed toothed maw, the first goblin drops, the second gets pounced on by Dusk, ripping into his neck it drops to the ground. The third goblin charges Rai, he connect with Rai's left shoulder, sending blood and pain over his body. The fourth goblin swings with ferocity at dusk and just missing her by inches. Rai drops his bow and with a surge of adrenaline he swings his fists and connects dropping one into unconsciousness. Dusk turns and showing her bloody face pounces on the last goblin and succeeds to rip it open with it's claws and teeth. Rai pulls out his longsword and delivers a powerful thrust into the chest of the unconscious Goblin. "Well that was fun." said Rai looking at Dusk and smiling, her face and paws covered in blood. Breathing heavily, they rest for while, Rai succeeds to bandage himself up and stop the bleeding, Dusk cleans herself. They continue to travel until the sun disappears between the trees. Still not recovered from their battle they feast on nuts, berries and hard rations. They settle down to rest for the night.
It was once bright and sunny, but today all of that turned to gray, clouds overhung the day with dreary ambition. The smell of rain is pleasant, but the chirping is gone, and knowing that it would rain soon filled them with a different outlook on the day. The feel of rain dripping down their face, cleansing their bodies, left them in anguish for the coming downpour. A cool wind picks up and glides across Rai’s face, and Dusk’s hair flutters briefly with the wind. About mid morning they managed to make it into the forest. The winds start to pick up faster than it was earlier, leaves and small limbs sway in harmony with the current of air. Its not quiet anymore, the wind is consistently blowing now and before they could blink they are overwhelmed by rain, quickly coming down in sheets, stinging against his skin. In the distance they spot a cave. Ducking down low they race into the entrance with little of an invitation. Rai turns about to stare at the rain. “Wow!” Rai said suddenly as a flash of lightning appears in the distance watching the limbs sway and leaves fly through the air.
Dusk never turned to watch, she stood on guard eyeing something deep in the cave. Her sharp teeth started to show and a low growl came from her throat. Another bolt of lightning flashed to the ground as Rai turned to see what she was at full attention with. “Dusk. Quiet down.” she ceased her aggressive stance. “Hello? Its alright… she won’t bite. Another bolt of lightning crashes down to the forest floor lighting up the cave and illuminating a smaller humanoid figure wrapped in a cloak crouched tightly against the wall. She slowly stands up, and pulls back the hood revealing her Elven nature and out falls golden blonde hair dampened by the rain and baby blue eyes, “My name is Rai” he said softly ”Rai Silverstar.” In a soft and delicate voice she replies “My name is Lia Liadon.” The winds have picked up and lighting has become more intense, they can here the trees singing with the wind. Loud whirling sounds this last for a few hours.
No sun in sight, and the light is quickly vanishing. The storm is raging on stronger than it was hours ago, now its wildness is uprooting trees and snapping off limbs. Lia, Rai, and Dusk sit near the edge of the cave watching in all its fury a hurricane. For a mere few seconds everything became calm, just as if it were a dream, just like the end of a raging stampede. “I think we need to get deeper into the cave.” Rai explained “I think we’ll be better off going down further until the storm is over“. Just then the end of the eye and all hell breaks loose again out beyond the cave, they quickly run down into the cave, a tree comes smashing into the side of the inner cave wall, rocks crumbling to the ground. Deep into the cave they went, only to find a dead end a small pool of water has gathered at the bottom, trickling from a small hole in the ceiling of the cave. Their they drink and cool and refreshing. “Here is were we wait Lia, right here until the storm is over. So they spread out their blankets, hearing the low rumble from the storm, they found themselves fast asleep.
